Basware and Trustpair: From Trusted Invoices to Trusted Payments
Finance teams have spent years getting the invoice right. But a correct invoice and a safe payment are not the same thing, and that gap is exactly where fraud lives. On September 16, we hosted our first webinar since announcing Basware's intention to acquire Trustpair. Here's the recap, and why you'll want to watch the full session.
Ready to pay isn't the same as safe to pay
Basware has spent more than 40 years answering one question: is this invoice authentic, compliant, and properly approved? That's “ready to pay.” But an invoice can clear every check and still get paid to a criminal if the bank details behind it were swapped along the way. That's “safe to pay,” and it's a different control, one most finance teams don't have. It's why Basware is bringing in Trustpair.
The poll result that says it all
We asked the audience directly: has your organization dealt with payment fraud, or an attempted fraud, in the last 18 months?

More than four in ten attendees had already faced an attempted fraud, and almost three in ten weren't sure either way. That “not sure” answer is arguably the most telling one in the room: fraud attempts aren't consistently visible across the business, and plenty of organizations have no way of knowing what they've already dodged, or missed.
Why the economics of fraud have changed
AI has made impersonating a supplier cheap, fast, and easy to scale, and regulation (NACHA, confirmation of payee, verification of payee) is shifting more responsibility onto finance teams that often don't have a dedicated fraud function. Fraud gets stopped at three checkpoints: onboarding, ongoing monitoring of vendor data that shifts by 20 to 40 percent a year, and the moment right before payment. Basware confirms the invoice is right. Trustpair confirms the supplier and the destination are right. Together, that's the full financial decision covered, not just half of it.
What Trustpair brings to the table
Trustpair gives more than 600 large organizations confidence that payments reach the right bank account and the right vendor: a zero-fraud track record in nearly 10 years, manual verification cut by 90% through automation, and coverage across 190 countries protecting more than $2 trillion in spend. It operates through three modules that map to the checkpoints above: Control for new vendors and change requests, Audit for continuous monitoring, and a pre-payment check that revalidates everything right before the money moves. Trustpair stays independent within Basware, so customers keep the same product and relationship they have today.
Proof at scale: Danone
Trustpair has worked with Danone for close to five years, managing verification across roughly half a million vendors in around 120 countries, part of Danone's own publicly recognized fraud-prevention transformation.
None of this happens by accident
Getting the invoice right was never the finish line. Full Compliance. Complete Control. Now the payment gets the same scrutiny as the invoice behind it, all under one Invoice Lifecycle Management (ILM) strategy instead of two disconnected ones.

This recap covers the headlines. The full webinar walks through the live scenario exercises our speakers ran with the audience (real examples of when to pay and when to hold back), plus the deeper dive into Trustpair's verification methodology or reach out to your Basware account representative to book a working session with the Basware and Trustpair team.
